The R-Series Desktop Coaters are high productivity tools that deliver consistent and repeatable results in the fully automated system that has an ergonomic design and compact footprint. The R-series Desktop Coaters are available in 3 models to chose from:
- DSR – dedicated Sputter Coater
- DCR – dedicated Carbon Coater (fiber or rod)
- DCR-L – Carbon Coater for large or multiple samples
- DSCR – dual purpose Sputter and Carbon Coater
The DSR Sputter Coater model is a dedicated coating system which is able to coat noble metals such as gold (Au), palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt) and gold/palladium (Au/Pd) thin films on non-conductive or poorly conductive specimens, typically for SEM imaging and analysis. Uniform thin films with fine-grain sizes are formed in a fast cycle time suitable for standard scanning electron microscopy. A special DSR-L model with larger chamber is available but requires a 4″ diameter (100mm) target which is custom and quite expensive for noble metal targets.
The DCR Carbon Coater model is a dedicated carbon coating system and can be configured with either a Thread or Rod carbon source. Carbon thin films are essentially X-Ray transparent for EDS analysis and are applied to non-conductive or poorly conductive specimens, typically for advanced SEM/EDS analysis. The DCR-L model is a special version using a 300mm chamber allowing uniform coating onto larger samples or multiple metallurgical mounts simultaneously.
The DSCR combines both Sputter and Carbon coating into a modular unit for SEM sample preparation and can be configured as a sputter coater OR carbon coater (thread) with interchangeable heads in one instrument.
The external vacuum pump (included) achieves vacuum of less than 50 mTorr which is a suitable vacuum range for noble metal sputter coating and basic evaporative coating. allows fast vacuum to be achieved resulting in an adequate coating grain size for most SEM analysis. If samples will be examined using high resolution Field Emission SEM (FE-SEM) or TEM, then we recommend our T-Series Coaters which have an added turbo-molecular high vacuum pump for even smaller grain size coatings.
